Because it is made with a high cement content and requires a great deal of water to mix, it may crack while drying.
2.
The reduction in cement content and increase in packing density of materials finer than 80 m, like fly ash etc . can reduce the water-cement ratio, and the high-range water reducer ( HRWR ) demand.
3.
Addition of coarse aggregates has been tried, since this is a cheap way to increase compressive strength, but since the cement content of sandcrete is small, so is the amount of water that is added to the sand / cement mix to cure it.
4.
Initially and generally, RCC was used for backfill, sub-base and concrete pavement construction, but increasingly it has been used to build concrete gravity dams because the low cement content and use of fly ash cause less heat to be generated while curing than do conventional mass concrete placements.
